Does your mindset and beliefs slow you down?
As an entrepreneur I’ve had many highs and lows over the past 7 years. I’ve worked many hours behind the scenes. I’ve felt unqualified, unworthy, and not good enough.
But my success is based on my mindset and beliefs. Beliefs on how I view myself. And being aware of what I’m thinking about.
Is it easy?
But it’s worth it.
Do you struggle with your mindset and beliefs? Do they propel you forward or cause you to sit in a stagnant pool of water?
How you view yourself and what you constantly tell yourself is what will come about.
Would You Rather Hear About Methods?
I could give you a list of steps and methods to reach success.
I could tell you all the steps to grow a successful business. Or how to lose weight. Or how to write a best-selling book. I could give you the A, B, C, D instructions, and say this is how you become successful.
Methods are only 20% of what will take you to the next level.
What Hinders You From Moving Forward?
For many of you, your mindset and what you’re focusing on, is hindering you from moving forward.
Do you believe you’re not good enough? Or that you’re never going to be good enough?
Whatever you think about, your actions will show that.
You can watch all the trainings in the world, but if you don’t take control of what you’re thinking about, it will lead you in a completely different direction than where you want to go.
We should be thinking about what we’re thinking about. That is crucial.
The Place To Go When You Need To Change Your Thoughts
One of my favorite scriptures is Philippians 4:8-9. It’s one I like to focus on to make sure my thoughts are in check.
Phil 4:8-9 (MSG) Summing it all up friends I say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious.
The best, not the worst, the beautiful, not the ugly, things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you have learned from me, what you heard, saw and realized. Do that and God who makes everything work together will work you into His most excellent harmonies.
Yes, this is what we should be thinking about.
Those Dumbbells Are Heavier Than I Thought
Imagine going to the gym. It’s your first time.
You start to bench press 20 pounds, but find the weight is heavier than a piano and after two times you scream for help. Someone comes and relieves you of your weights.
You stand up and say, “I quit. I will never be able to lift weights.”
That’s focusing on your weaknesses.
You feel like you’re not good enough and will never be good enough.
Your actions follow those thoughts.
That’s an example of what your mindset and beliefs could be.
Bring those thought processes into your business, your weight loss, your dream to write a book, your relationships, and you will begin to see what that stagnant pool of water feels like.
You Can Change Your Mindset and Beliefs
Do you ever feel unqualified to do something?
I know I do.
Regardless of what I feel, I find out what God’s word says about it first. I find out the truth from His word and apply it to the situation I’m struggling with.
I go to Phil 4:8-9. and read about what I should be focusing on.
That scripture tells me I should be focusing on the best, not the worst. The beautiful, not the ugly. Things to praise, not things to curse.
But I would have to say that most of us, in our mindset and beliefs, are constantly thinking the ugly and the worst. We’re waiting to curse someone or we’re waiting to curse ourselves.
Until you get your mindset around what you deserve and what your worth is, you will be going around in circles.
What determines your success is what you believe.
I’ve asked many people what their passion and goals are, especially those that want to join me on my team. 99% of the time the answer is to help people.
A lot of people want to help others, but they can’t get past themselves.
Their fear gets in the way. What they start to think gets in the way.
They stop focusing on what God wants them to do. They’re so consumed with their own thoughts, their own comfort, or their own insecurities.
Some people don’t get past their own thought processes, or the way they view themselves.
Not Smart Enough
People tell me all the time that they’re not smart enough.
I’m so glad that learning, taking trainings and academies, isn’t always about how smart you are, but how you view what you’re going into.
Your mindset and the thought process that makes you either think you can do this, or you’re never going to be good enough, is what gets you through the challenges or not.
You have to be open to growth.
When it comes to your mindset and beliefs, you have to make sure you’re allowing yourself to grow and to be stretched and to feel uncomfortable.
It doesn’t matter how smart you are. You don’t have to have a college degree to go through an online academy, by Chalene Johnson, or Brendon Buchard, or Tiffany Bymaster.
Find Out Why You Believe What You Believe About Yourself
Once you start to dive into learning why you believe what you believe, you will find it’s usually because of a past experience.
- It could be because of the way someone treated you.
- Or how your parents raised you.
- Or a certain situation with your husband or your best friend.
You begin to form your mindset and beliefs around your past experiences.
In the end, those beliefs will leave you feeling less than and unworthy. Especially if you were in an abusive relationship. Especially if you’ve been told all your life that you’re not going to be somebody, and that you’re not going to be good at anything.
I can remember my mom always telling me that I’ll never be able to pay my bills, or I’ll never understand what it’s like to do certain things. Of course, I always retaliated with, I’m going to show you.
But then there is this feeling deep within myself, that I was never good enough, or that I was never going to be good enough.
So I had to start retraining my brain to make sure that what I was feeding myself was according to God’s word.
I had to watch what other people said to me. I took what they said to see if it lined up with God’s word or not. I would evaluate whether it was something I should look at in order to grow.
The more someone says something negative about you over time, the more you start to believe those things, but it’s not the truth.
You can win any battle in your mind
Your mindset and beliefs will dictate exactly where you want to go. Because you can win any battle in your mind.
You can talk yourself out of working out and you can talk yourself into giving up.
But a lot of people don’t talk themselves into what they should be doing. Because it’s too uncomfortable, it’s too scary, and most people just don’t want to deal with why they feel that way.
So what happens, is they brush it under the rug, and they act like it doesn’t exist. Therefore, they carry things from the past into their present and future.
We have to think about what we’re thinking about, and we have to think about why we think those things.
Do you have certain thoughts when you’re around certain people? Do you have certain insecurities when you go to certain events, or when you go to certain family functions?
You have to know why these deep rooted thoughts are coming about, because they’re going to dictate your life and which direction you take.
Make The Decision
You have to make the decision.
Are you going to begin to change the way you think, so that you can serve, so that you can help, so that you can reach as many people as possible?
Or are you going to continue to shrink back in your mindset and beliefs?
When it comes to uncovering those uncomfortable moments, think about the past situations that you might have to seek counselling for, because reprogramming your thoughts is what needs to happen.
Doing Stuff Nobody Sees
I’ve spent the last two days doing things that nobody will see in my business. Things that are unsexy and unpopular. Working with lists and emails and these different set ups that nobody else is going to see.
I can’t tell myself those things don’t matter and I shouldn’t do them, because who cares? Nobody will see what I’ve done.
I have to remember that I can’t think those things. I have to fall in love with the hidden hours. The hours that people might not see and I might not get glory for.
A lot of people want that glory. They want people to see their success.
But when they start doing the things that are ugly and things behind the scenes, they start to think they’re not good enough and they will never have the success they want.
Focus On Having A Kingdom Mindset
Even though you don’t feel like you’re good enough, it doesn’t mean it’s the truth.
Because feelings are false 99% of the time. If you listen to your feelings, they will drag you down even further.
Once you begin to work through your past situations, you will gain confidence and you will to be able to say you can do this.
