Do it all for His glory.
There is always something in our lives that we want to improve on, become better at or master. We want to lose weight, gain financial freedom, have nice things or be the highest in our industry. BUT my question to you is, why do you want these things? Is it because if other people see you with nice things it won’t let them see how you are hurting inside? Do you want to lose weight because you want people to date you and think you are pretty? Being high up in your industry then makes you feel special because for the first time in your life you are being recognized when before you were never even noticed.
Let me ask you, What are you focusing on? Your entire mindset can change when you change your focus. With each new focus it will create a change of direction in your mind. Whether a good or bad change.
This brings me to the topic of, “why do we do, what we do”. Kind of sounds like a tongue twister doesn’t it? Let me explain.
Many times we live our entire lives wanting to live someone else’s life. We forget to live in the moment of our lives because when scrolling through news feeds we only focus on wishing we could have what everyone else has. We think to ourselves, “oh I wish I had that, wish I was that blessed” when in reality we are already blessed in our own lives. But, since we focus on others we lose the opportunity to enjoy our lives.
This boils down to your motives.
What are you asking for and why are you asking for it? What are the motives behind wanting more money? What are the motives behind wanting to lose weight? Maybe you are you trying to impress someone? Only you can answer these questions.
You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the spirit he has caused to dwell in us
– James 4:2-5
Let your heart become pure and release yourself from the bondage and hidden motives. When we live this way God works in us and our everyday choices become a little bit easier. Joyce Meyer says, “You have to think about, what you are thinking about.” I am not saying that any of the things I listed above are bad, but your motives reveal everything about your character.
Today I want to encourage you to sit down with a pen and paper and write this out. Don’t just go through the motions any more. Stop and take control of your thoughts. Our thoughts control our actions, pay close attention and stop striving for a goal only to feel unfulfilled when you get there.
I pray for peace for you along this journey as it may not be a easy one. I am with you and everyday we have to “check in” to our own lives and own the moment. You can do this.
Until next time,
